The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) was founded Ft. Worth, Texas, in 1955. Since its founding, NAWIC, an international non-profit organization, has grown to a membership of 5,500 women with more than 179 chapters. As word of NAWIC spread, several foreign countries became interested in the cause to enhance the success of women in the construction industry. In 1996, NAWIC signed an International Affiliation Agreement with NAWIC-Australia. In 1998, NAWIC signed an International Affiliation Agreement with New Zealand and another in 1999 with South African Women in Construction (SAWiC). In September 2003, NAWIC signed an international affiliation agreement with the United Kingdom.
In its 51 years of service to its members, NAWIC has advanced the causes of all women in construction whose careers range from business ownership to the skilled trades.

NAWIC Objectives:

• To provide members an awareness of the legislative process
and legislation as it relates to the construction industry.
NAWIC in Tampa:
The Tampa Chapter #36 of the National Association of Women in Construction was founded in 1960. In the past 47 years, NAWIC Tampa Bay area have contributed countless hours of hard work toward bettering the community and construction industry employment for women.
Tampa NAWIC members have provided volunteers for charitable organizations and are committed to education for both women working in the construction industry and for our youth.
Throughout the years, Tampa NAWIC has sponsored a wide range of construction related courses and seminars such as Blue Print Reading, Introduction to Construction, Intermediate Construction and Mechanic's Lien Law.
This year the chapter is participating in the NAWIC Education Foundation CAD Design and Drafting Competition & the Block Kids Program.
Each month we hold a dinner/business meeting in addition to netowrking opportunities, a construction related program is presented. Recent topics have included green construction, lien laws and OSHA safety.
The chapter has a variety of committees to be involved in. From dinner planning, golf tournament, communications and many others, there is certainly a committee for each member to enjoy.
