The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) Tampa Chapter founded in 1960, has spent over 50 years supporting women in construction. We are currently part of the Southeast Region, made of up chapters in Florida, Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee. Our members work and live in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, Polk, Sarasota and Manatee Counties. We are committed to continual educational development for both women currently working in the construction industry and for those interested in joining us, through our National Education Foundation Certification Programs, and on the local level through CAD Design and Drafting Competition for high school students, and Block Kids for elementary students. We also offer several scholarships to students throughout Tampa Bay.
Our members remain committed to doing business with other chapter members. And, with a variety of networking opportunities you are certain to find members who will help your business grow. Our monthly meetings, social gatherings and a variety of committees meetings ensure you’ll develop relationships with the most involved women in the Tampa Bay Construction Industry.
The National Association of Women In Construction (NAWIC) originally began as Women In Construction of Fort Worth. It was founded in 1953 by 16 women working in the construction industry. Knowing that women represented only a small fraction of the construction industry, the founders organized NAWIC to create a support network. Women in Construction of Fort Worth was so successful that it gained its national charter in 1955 and became the National Association of Women In Construction.
NAWIC has a membership of 6,200 with close to 200 chapters in 49 U.S. states and in three Canadian provinces. Since 1996, NAWIC has seen its mission grown transcontinentally, with the signing of International Affiliation agreements with NAWIC-Australia, NAWIC-New Zealand, South African Women In Construction (SAWiC) and most recently with NAWIC-United Kingdom . In its 46 years of service to its membership, NAWIC has advanced the causes of all women in construction whose careers range from the skilled trades to business ownership.
To enhance the success of women in the construction industry. Believe. Persevere. Dare.
